A History of Our Beautiful Cemetery

The oldest members of this parish had the honor of being laid to rest in the very shadow of their church. As years elapsed and more space was needed, the cemetery was enlarged (1892 - 1904). Again, in 1910, the congregation was in need of a more cemetery space and due to the insight of Father George Reber, additional land was purchased. After the present church was built, the old cemetery was no longer in line, for the church had been placed at a lower level. Father Reber was instrumental in building the retaining wall across the front of the cemetery. This was one of the wisest improvements made by Father Reber as it beautified the church property and provided space for parking. St. Joseph Parish continues to this day in enlarging the cemetery and planning for its upkeep.
